The fitna of ignorance
Tridulations are clearly rampant in our time and, indeed, among the worst of them is the fitna of ignorance in regards to matters of the religion. ibn mas'ud (radiya'llahu anhu) truthfully expressed:
{What will you do when an ordeal(of ignorance and deviation) prevails over you, so that the adults reach old age, and the young will grow to adulthood; and the people will come to adopt it as sunnah; and should one default in any part of it , it will be said that he breached the sunnah?}

He (radiya'llahu anhu) was asked, "when will that come to happen?" He replied:
{It will happen when your learned ones are gone; you will have many Qura'an-reciters, but few with true understanding (of islam), and many commanders, but few trustworthy ones. Wordly gains will be saught through (religious) deeds of the hearafter, and the religious knowledge will be saught for other than the sake of the religion} (1)

This report, mawquf (2) though it takes the status of marfu (3) because it entions matters ot the ghayb that cannot be known except through revelation.
In this hadeeth, we can see signs of the Prophet muhammads (sal Allahu alayhi was sallams) prophethood and the truthfulness of his message. Bid'ahs are prevelent and most muslims are fervent in following them and calling others to them. Those who observe sunnah and oppose bid'ahs are considered extremists, followers of bid'ahs, and neglectors of the sunah! Their crime is their rejection of innovations and refusal to participate in the deviation
This happened to the followers of the sunnah in many countries and lands. They revived the sunnah of praying the tarawih as eleven rak'at, while maintaing outward serenity and submission, and uttering correct authentic dhikr, all of which is neglected by most people who pray 20 rak'at.
This caused a great disturbance and fury among those who have been brought up and nurtured upon taqlid(4). They severely attacked the followers of sunnah by speeches, sermons and books.... all of which mostly void of useful knowledge and reliable knowledge and reliable evidence and full of curses and profanities. Such is the practice of these people of falsehooh when they criticize people of truth.

(taken from the night prayers qiyyam and tarawihcompiled by muhammad al jibali based on works by muhammad nasir ud-deen al Albani [rahimahullah] and other scholars)
(1) Recorded by ad Darimi with two isnads, one of which is sahih and the other hasan.It is also recorded by al Hakim and ibn 'Abd il-Barr in jami'u Bayan il-'ilm (Qiyam Ramadan p.4)
(2) A statement that appears to be a sahahis opinion or saying, without being clearly attributed to the prophet [sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam].
(3) a statement explicitly attributed to the prophet [sal Allahu alayhi was sallam].
(4) irrational imitation of others.

Tasfiyah and tarbiyah are a must tasfiyah is to cleanse and purify the deen the belief and practices and tarbiyah, is cultivating and educating and guiding the people upon true islam the cleansed and purified teachings.
Deeds have 2 conditions (1) ikhlas sincerity , for Allah alone and (2) they have to be in accordance with what the prophet [sal Allah alayhi was sallam] brought. (ie in accordance with authentic sunnah with the understanding and practice of the righteous salaf; the sahabah and their true followers)

knowledge only comes from the mercy of Allah ...

Fear Allah and He will teach you..... surah al Baqarah ayat 282
