Its obligatory on the student of knowledge to refrain from disobedience, for indeed disobedience kills the heart and weakens the understanding and its narrated about Imaam Shaafi'ee he said: "I complained to my teacher Wa'kee about my weak memory so he directed me to leave of sin and then he said, `know!!!! That knowledge is light; and the light of Allaah He does not give it to a disobedient person." And I say the proof for that is found in the Book of Allaah when He Glorified be He Says, O you who believe! If you obey and Fear Allaah, He will grant you Furqaan (a criterion), and will expiate for you your sins, and forgive you, and Allaah is the Owner of Great Bounty. [Soorah Al-Anfaal (8):29]O you who believe Fear Allaah, and believe too in His Messenger (Sallallaahu `alayhe wa Sallam), he will give you a double portion of His Mercy, and he will give you a light by which you shall walk (straight), and he will forgive you. And Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. [Soorah Al Hadeed (57):28] So what is important is that the student of knowledge needs consistent striving, striving against himself and against ones passions and lower desires and its greed, and to tire himself out in acquiring knowledge, and to hope that Allaah will enable him to achieve that, and the tawfeeq (success) is from Allaah. Taken from the Book: al-Fataawaa al-Jaliyyah 'an al-Manaahij ad-Da'wiyyah pg. 111 by al-'Allaamah Ahmad bin Yahyaa an-Najamee (hafidhahullaahu ta'aalaa

as salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu. may Allah direct you to obedience of Him ameen, today a day allthe rest, kindof... nice day mashaa Allah productive at times, may Allah accept all my actions including housework as ibaadah ameen. I have a nice book mashaa Allah about fasting ramadan is soon inshaa Allah, im soooooo excited ! (all invites greatfully accepted lol)the books called fasting in ramadan as observed by the prophet (peace be upon him) its by Saleem al Hilaalee and 'Alee 'Abdul Hameed who are two students of Shaykh Nasir-ud deen Al Albani (raheemahullah) with the permission of Allah will post some virtues of fasting in the fasting section, as we all know fasting is not just for ramadan.....

He (sal Allahu alayhi was sallam) said:

"fasting and the Qur'aan intercede for the servant on the Day of ressurection. Fasting will say : O my Lord I prevented him from food and desires so accept my intercession for him, and the Qur'aan will say :I prevented him from sleep at night, soo accept my intercession for him, so their intercession will be accepted."

Reported by Ahmed (no.6626), al Haakim (1/554), Aboo Nu'aim (8/161) and others from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr, and its chain of narration is hasan

something that also comes to mind about fasting is the abstaining from backbiting and the like, it should be abstained from at all times but unfortunately its something that pops its ugly head up now and again!

لسانك لا تذكر به عورة امرئ *** فكلّـك عورات وللناس ألسـن
وعينك إن أبدت إليك معايباً *** فدعها وقل : يا عين للناس أعينُ

Let not your tongue mention the shame of another For you yourself are covered in shame and all men have tongues. If your eye falls upon the sins of your brotherShield them and say: "O my eye! All men have eyes!"

its as if ppl think they wont be judged on their speech, as if their accountable for nothing... as if theres no consequence...

Allah says:

مَا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ

Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it). (Qaf 50:18)

Khutbah on Women
Friday, June 29th, 2007
A Reminder for our Believing Women- By Aboo Zaynab Tawfeeq Ibn Hosley
Overview :
This is a lecture that should put the heart of every woman at ease. Though the life of a woman in Islaam may seem difficult to some who have no knowledge, or insight, Allaah Has promised Paradise for His righteous servants.
——————The brother starts the sermon with - Khutbatul-Haajah -
Today’s Khutbah is a reminder for myself and everyone else who is sitting here and all those who may hear about this khutbah and i.e. the prohibition of Ikhtilaaq - of freely mixing between male and female. Al Islaam has placed before us the ways to reduce the temptations of the fitnah of Nisaah and that is this ikhtilaaq (is freely mixing between a man and a woman) — a woman mixing with a man who does not have a mahram and this is prohibited in Islaam. This is the ways that destroys the society and this is the reason why we are going to speak about this today because it is the women who build the society. When you look at the society of today, we see that the women, they are amongst the people that are destroying the society. Because the strongest evidence that prohibits this mixing between men and women when Allaah Azzawajal says in Kitaab al-Azeez i.e. the Quraan :
“Allaah tabarak wa ta’ala commands the women to stay in their houses and He prohibits them from making this dazzling display of themselves.”
Why did Allaah tabarak wa ta’ala inform us thus? Why did He encourage them and command them to stay in their houses? It is because they will not be molested and they stay in their houses and remember Allaah subhana wa ta’ala and they will be protected in their houses. So that they can be protected from all of the evils that occur when they leave their house.
Yes, when we look at this ayat, look at today’s society na’am when you go and buy airline tickets, whom do you see? except women.
When you go to the bank, whom do you see? except women.
When you want to buy a car, whom do you see? except women.
When you want to pay your electricity bill / gas bill whom do you see? except women.
Na’am, they are the ones who are destroying the society. They are the ones who are allowing the destruction of the society. It is because we don’t want to listen to the guidance of Allaah subhana wa ta’ala. Because if you listen to the guidance and heed the guidance and implement the guidance and disseminate this guidance amongst the people we will be amongst the people who are successful.
Na’am the above ayah is about what? It is about women staying in their houses. Staying in their houses and not making a dazzling display of themselves.
When Allaah tabarak wa ta’ala says : “Ask them from behind the hijab.” Why??
Why? Because when you ask them from behind the hijab it is better and it will conceal the disease of that person that is asking. Like the words of the Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam : It will conceal, it will protect them from their disease because they don’t see them.
And the other ayat that proceeds this is :And when the women speak from behind the hijab they are not going to speak to try and tempt you or allure you or attract you to that temptation. But because we are far away from the guidance of Allaah subhana wa ta’ala and we want to be on something that is not right.
Na’m when we talk on the telephone and we want to ask about a brother : “is he home?” We want to get all personal with his wife : “How are you doing? I heard you were sick. How are the children?”
This is not the place for you to be asking her. You should ask her husband when he returns and you catch him and you are able to talk to him.
That is why the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam told to ask from behind the Hijab so that it can protect her.
The wives of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam were knowledgeable in that community, not like our wives. They do not know even know how to perform their salaah properly.
First of all look at our children. That is why keep them in their house.
When you keep them in the house the children will benefit. Not like today when the children come to the Masjid, when they see the other Muslims (elders) they don’t give the salams. The hadith : the one who is riding should give salams to the one who is walking. The one who is walking gives salams to the one sitting and the one who has small amounts give it to the ones with larger amounts and the youngsters give salams to those who are older in age.”
How come our youngsters don’t initiate the salams with the ones older in age? It is because our women are not in the house, teaching the kids the Book of Allaah and the sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. It is because the women, the wives of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam were commanded them to stay in their house and to recite kitaab ul-Hikmah. What is Kitab-ual-Hikmah? It is the Book of Allah subhana wa ta’ala and the sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. The wives of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam did this. They didn’t read some Greek Aristotle’s. They didn’t recite anything that would keep them away from the remembrance of Allah. They are going to remember Allaah.
They are going to remember Allaah by reciting that which He sent down and implementing that which He sent down. Likewise we need to teach our children. Now, how can we teach our children if the woman is outside the home always?
They don’t know. Kids don’t know, we have to teach it to them.
When the husband comes home from a hard days work what is the first thing she (the wife) does? How would she know to attend to his needs if the woman is not at home to receive her husband?
We are not here to entertain anyone. This is Yawm-ul-Jummah. If you come to Yawm-ul-Jummah it is obligatory upon you all to know the etiquettes. This is not to entertain anyone or any of the children. It is there to remove some of the diseases that reside in the hearts and to benefit from the reminder so that we can implement it in our life-styles.
So what is it when the women stay outside of their houses? She’s not like that the woman. When her husband comes home after a hard days work, the first thing she would do after she gives you salams is to take off your shoes. She gives him something to drink. She comforts him. She wants to know how his day was at work. She asks him if there is anything that she could get him.
She has his clothes ready for the next day by ironing them etc. So that when the children see this they know that when the daughters get married they are going to treat their husbands exactly like that or better than that. Because they are witnessing the guidance of Allaah in their hearts. Not like our children. We don’t teach them anything and the cause is because our women are outside their house.
When they are outside the house, they don’t know the Shaitan, he beautifies them. “I don’t care if you are wearing all black, he beautifies you. So much that if there is disease in his heart or anyone else that black is going to look good for him. And he will say that he wants someone just like that. The lady he sees is wearing nothing but black and he can’t see anything except the eyes may be uncovered. Now, you want to see the eyes. When you look her in the eyes, now you are finished. Because the disease is just coming out. That is why we have to teach our women that when they come out for something that is a necessity, they must take care of that business and get back into their house.
Not like the women of these days in time. Because the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said that the whole body of a woman is her private part. He didn’t make no exceptions. He didn’t say except her face and hands, he didn’t say except her feet, except her eyes. He said the whole body of a woman is her awrah.
Not like our women, when they come out they don’t know about the guidance of Allaah. The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam prohibited the women from walking in the middle of the streets and when you tell them, they don’t want to adhere to that. They want to adhere to their passing desires. “I ain’t walking in the sides of the street.”
When the sahabiyaats were walking in the middle of the streets the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said: “Draw back now. Draw back and walk in the sides of the roads and don’t walk in the middle of the roads. ” So much so that when the walking their body was scratching against the wall because they were adhering to the guidance of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
I command all of you to follow the guidance of Allah, to follow that has been revealed to the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam.
So we have to know that if the woman comes out, even if you are taking her and you are driving and she is sitting in the car with you, it is best for the woman to sit at the back instead in front. And it is best she doesn’t speak unless there is a need for her to speak. Because when she speaks and she is controlling the conversation and you have a friend in the car, what does that do except produce some disease that may reside in your heart, that may stay in the heart. And you may start thinking something bad and it starts rusting may be that her voice may have attracted you. We don’t think about that. When there is no need she shouldn’t talk. Why? Because the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said : “Shyness doesn’t come except with goodness.” Let her not speak unless there is a necessity since her voice may attract a non-mahram man.
When I was growing up years ago, the women used to wear skirts and long dresses. They didn’t wear pants because they felt shy to wear pants. But now they have no shyness. They have gone from skirts and long dresses to wearing pants. And when they used to wear skirts and long dresses and they needed to bow down or bend down to pick up something, they used to do it with modesty. But now the bend down to pick up something wearing pants, with no modesty, exposing it all so much so that the people around them would be affected.
Know that the woman, they need to stay in their house and teach our children. So that they wont lure and tempt us. Because every single place you go you have a woman right in front of your face. The airport, the market place, the cashier, the register clerk in the hospital, when you go to pay your gas bill, your water bill. Every place you name it they have a woman right in front of your face.
And how many of us want to go to a store and buy something now because we saw a beautiful woman walking. Apparently she is beautiful? But in actuality she is not beautiful. So much so that even if a woman is wearing all black they want to have some type of fashion with it. Why black? Because it is the purpose that it serves, it is supposed to turn us away from them. But now like other sisters they wear all black and they want to wear red with it. A red hand bag and red shoes !!!
Before we entered Islaam that was the furthest thing that turned us away. We went far away from this as this didn’t look good.
The woman is a fitnah so protect her. If you protect her you protect the society, you protect your children and without a doubt you are protecting yourself. Because when you come home from a hard days work she will take off your shoes and socks and will give you something to drink. Your children are going to do the same thing. You are teaching them how to be obedient to your husband. How to treat your husband, so much that when she is about nine years of age she knows majority of the things as to how to please her husband, how to stay with her husband, how to call her husband, how to be obedient to the husband, to help one another in good and righteousness and not help one another in sin and transgression.
So we have to learn and we have to teach our women to stay in their houses and don’t come out except when it is necessary for them to come out.
——————Part 2
The importance of this khutbah is what? To protect ourselves and our women because the women make up the society. Majority of men is where? In prison. Majority of men are drug addicts but you have an abundance of women out there. Like in Egypt 16 million people in the main city and 85% or 90% are unmarried and the dowry is sky high. So what does that produce except homosexuality. That is what it is going to produce because the men can’t get married. These days we don’t have the Imaan like the Imaan of Imaam Ahmed Rahimullaah. He didn’t even get married until he was 40 years of age; na’m why?? Because he was busy with seeking knowledge. Seeking knowledge so much so that even when he went to Makkah and he was with Yahya Ibn Muaid Rahimullah he told him that after his Hajj he wanted to go to Yemen so that he could meet up and take knowledge from Imaam San’aali. Na’m today we have a Sheikh Muqbil bin Hadi rahimullah a Muhaddith in Yemen and we don’t even teach our children about him. So that when it is summer we don’t put them in the day care and your wife says: “I have saved up all the money that you have given me and I would like you to take off from your job and take my children up to Yemen so that they can benefit from the Sheikh before he dies.” We aren’t thinking like that.
Every single time you come to the Masjid the woman is right there too as though it is obligatory for her to make salaah in the Masjid. You take her to a place like this. We say the Masjid is packed and the men can’t get in there and there is no place and it is not obligatory for the woman to come to the Masjid. For whom is it obligatory? It is obligatory for the men who are responsible to perform Yawm al Jummah in the Masjid. But our women every single time there is a class or something or Yawm al Jummah, they are at the doorsteps or the doorways of the Masjids so much so that when it is time to make Salaah and you come late she makes Salah outside the door where everyone else is praying. She doesn’t know “Shyness doesn’t come except with goodness.”
If your not eligible to make salaah why do you have to come to the Masjid? Why?
When I was a Kaafir I used to be ashamed to go to the store to buy those personal things for my mother. I used to hide it in everything else. Now you got the best thing you want to let everybody know. You go to the Masjid and don’t pray you want everybody to know because you are facing the direction the brothers come in. You tell me that this ain’t temptation. I don’t care if she is wearing all black, a man can go through that, a man is weak, a woman you have to caress her to get her into the mood to be intimate but a man he gets excited and is mesmerized easily. Go to the airport, the bus stop, the gal who is driving the bus you see the woman right in front of you. They have so much of the finest women in front of us and you tell me that this ain’t gonna change us? All of a sudden we want to buy that ticket because we want to stand in her face.
Likewise our Muslim women want to be outside doing the same thing. So my reminder to all of us is what? If the woman comes outside let her adhere to the guidance of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam. Because during the time of Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam they had two different doors, a door for the woman to go in and a door for the man to go in but it didn’t stop there. The women knew that the front line is the worst row for the woman and the worst row for the men is the last row.
When the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam finished making his salaah he was sitting in the direction he was praying so that he gave the women enough time to leave. Last month when I did that, one of the brothers said : “You are supposed to turn around right now.” So I had to explain that the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam and the sahabas did that to give the women enough time to leave. But now a days even if you do that the woman is still standing in the doorway.
So I ask all of you’ll to protect your wives, to protect your children. Keep them inside their houses except when there is a need for them to come out. And when they are in the house command them to remember Allaah subhana wa ta’ala and to raise the children upon the obedience of Allah subhana wa ta’ala and don’t be amongst the people who don’t raise them on the obedience of Allah subhana wa ta’ala.
A List Of The
Female
Students
of Al-Allamah as-Sheikh Muqbil Ibn Hadi Ibn Wadi’ee

All Praise is due to Allah, we praise Him, seek His help, and ask His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our souls, and the adverse consequences of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides, there is none that can misguide him, and whoever He misguides then none can guide him.
I bear witness and testify that there is no deity that is worthy of worship except for Allah; He is alone, having no partners. I bear witness and testify that Muhammad, sal Allahu aleihi wa salam, is His servant, slave and messenger.
O you who believe! Have taqwa of Allah, as He deserves, and die not except as Muslims. (Al-Imraan:Ayat 102)
O mankind! Have taqwa of your Lord, Who created you from a single person, and from him, He created his wife, and from these two, He created multitudes of men, and women. And have taqwa of Allah, through whom you demand your mutual rights , and (do not cut off)the ties of kinship. Verily, Allah is Ever-Watching over you. (An-Nisaa:Ayat 1)
O you who believe! Have taqwa of Allah, and say righteous speech. He will direct you to do righteous deeds and He will forgive your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has indeed achieved the ultimate success. (Al-Ahzab: Ayaat 70-71)
As to what follows, then the best speech is the Speech of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (sal Allahu aleihi wa salam). And the worst of affairs are newly invented matters, and every innovation is a misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire.
To proceed:
Abu Umaamah, radi Allahu anhu said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, sal Allahu aleihi wa salam, said:
"The excellence of the scholar over the worshipper is like my excellence over the lowermost of you. Indeed, Allah ‘aza wa jal, His angels, the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, even the ant in its hole and the fish, supplicate for the one who teaches good to the people.’" (at-Tirmidhi, 5/50, who says it is ‘hasan sahih’. It has also been declared sahih by Sheikh Al-Albani (rahimahu Allah) in Sahih at-Tirmidhi)
Abu Darda, radi Allahu anhu, said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, sal Allahu aleihi wa salam, said,
"He who takes a path in search of knowledge Allah will direct him to tread a path from the paths of Paradise. The angels lower their wings for the student of knowledge in approval of what he does. All in the heavens and the earth and the fish in the depths of the water seek forgiveness for the scholar, and the superiority of the scholar over the worshipper is like the superiority of the full moon at night over the rest of the stars. Verily, the scholars are the inheritors of the prophets. Verily, the prophets did not bequeath dinars or dirhams. All they left behind was the knowledge, so whoever takes it has indeed acquired a great fortune.’"
(Al-Musnad 5/196, Abu Dawud 3/317, at-aTirmidhi 5/49, Ibn Majah 1/81, ad-Darimi 1/98, Ibn Hibban 1/152. Declared sahih by Sheikh Al-Albani (rahimahu Allah) in Sahih al-Jaami)
"And that those who have been given knowledge may know that it (the Qur’an) is the truth from your Lord, and that they may believe therein, and that their hearts may submit to it with humility. And verily, Allah is the Guide of those who believe, to the straight path."
(Surah al-Hajj, Ayat 54)
"It is only those who have knowledge amongst His slaves who fear Allah. Verily, Allah is All Mighty, Oft-Forgiving"
(Surah Faatir Ayat 28)
"But those among them who are well-grounded in knowledge and the believers, believe what has been sent down to you and what was sent down before you, and those who establish prayer and give zakat and believe in Allah and the Last Day, it is to them we shall give a great reward."
(Surah An-Nisaa Ayat162)
So we see that seeking Islamic knowledge is very important in Islam and this is for the men and the women. It is easy for us, as busy wives and mothers, to make excuses for not studying important subjects such as the Arabic language, correct aqeedah, tawhid, and biographies of the righteous. And yet it is we who are our children’s first and perhaps most influential teachers, so what we learn we will pass on to them, insh’Allah, assisting them and ourselves in righteousness and increasing their imaan.
What follows is a list, authored by the Sheikh himself, of Sheikh Abi Abdur Rahman Muqbil Ibn Hadi al-Wadi’ee’s (rahimahu Allah) female students taken from the book "Tarjimatu Abi Abdur Rahman Muqbil Ibn Hadi al-Wadi’ee".
As you read these names and the comments and accomplishments of these students of knowledge, remind yourself that each one is a woman who, like you, has interests and obligations and family, and yet she takes the time to exert herself in seeking Islamic knowledge to benefit herself and others. Insh’Allah may this brief listing encourage Muslim women to do what they can to tread down the path of knowledge, that path which, as the hadith of Abu Darda relates, will lead her to tread down a path from the paths of Paradise.
1. The righteous Sheikha Umm Abdullah Bint Muqbil Ibn Hadi, Al-Wadi’eeya:
She is one who loves the Sunnah and calls to Allah upon knowledge and understanding, and is a strong researcher who hates blind following and strives on understanding the proof and acting upon it. She teaches them in "As-Sunnah" by Ibn Abi ‘Aasim, and "Qatar An-Nada" and she has previously taught "Al-Qawlu Al-Mafeed" by the esteemed Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahhab Al-Wasaabee, and "Fath Al-Majeed Sharh Kitab At-Tawhid" and other books as well.
And from what she has authored are "Naseehatee li An-Nisaa" (My Advice to the Women), which has been published (by Dar Al-Athaar). Also "As-Saheeh Al-Musnad min As-Shama’il Al-Muhamadiyah" published (by Dar Al-Athaar). And a treatise that is waiting to be printed, "Al-’Ilm wa Al’Ulema"
She is currently working on the verification and explanation of "As-Sunnah" by Ibn Abi ‘Aasim including the fiqh of some of the matters and the benefits of others, the religious importance of traveling for knowledge, and the rulings on the ahadith, authentic and weak, without blindly following anyone from the people of this time or other than them. She is also working on "As-Saheeh Al-Musnad min As-Seerati An-Nabwiyah" and she also has a beneficial commentary on "Bulagh Al Maraam" by Al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar.
All of this she does along with answering letters that are sent to her from within Yemen and outside of it, and Allah has made it sufficient for her to continue the journey in the service of the Prophet’s Sunnah, and may Allah protect her and her students from ignorant partisanship Ameen.
2. And she has an older sister, Umm Abdullah Al-Wadi’eeya. She is one who loves the good. She teaches within the limits of her capabilities what she is able with all of her responsibilities. May Allah give us success and guide her to good. Verily He is Bountiful and Generous.

She is now working on "As-Saheeh Al-Musnad min Al-Adhab An-Nabawi", as well as reviewing books of explanation and recalling some of the benefits and elucidating some of the general expressions in the book. And may Allah grant her good.
She continues upon good and gaining beneficial knowledge. She attends my lessons and other lectures from behind a curtain. May Allah keep her firm and strong on the truth and benefit Islam and the Muslims by her. And in spite of all this, she serves me and helps me with my research as well as one could possibly wish. And may Allah grant her good.
4. Umm Salama As-Salafiyyah (and she is a wife of Sheikh Muqbil): An excellent, ascetic caller to Allah on firm knowledge, and she has excellent character. And one of her books, "Al-Intisa lill-Muminaat", is under publication, as well as a refutation of Az-Zandaani that she authored, which is an extremely beneficial research work. And she is now working on "al-Adab al- Mufrad," discussing what needs to be discussed regarding the narrators in the chains of narration. She also mentions the points of benefit from the fiqh of hadeeth, and the explanation of strange words within it and the verification of sources of the ahadith as needed. She has not ceased to continue upon the good and learning from the beneficial knowledge. She attends my classes and other lectures from behind a curtain.

35. Shahidah Umm Abdullah Fawrad Al-Britanniya Al-Muhaajira: And she is a woman aspiring to spend her time diligently in obtaining the knowledge, spending a great deal of her time in the masjid, reviewing and benefiting.
Alhamdulillah, I was recently blessed with the opportunity of sitting with Umm Salamah, may Allah preserve her, one of the wives of Sheikh Muqbil, rahimahu’Allah mentioned earlier. Alhamdulillah, there were many blessings in this, and I would like to share a few of them with you now.
The women’s musallah is small at this masjid, but mash’Allah, it was full of sisters who had come to hear Umm Salamah speak, not because it was "Umm Salamah", but because she is a person with a lot of knowledge, a person who is willing to share her knowledge with others, a person who learned through sitting with one of the major scholars of our time, alhamdulillah. There was none of that sort of "celebrity" factor that seems to creep in so often in the States. And indeed, when she came in, she looked just like the rest of us, no fanfare, no entourage, nothing like that. She came in and quietly made her two rak’aat, then sat in the chair next to me and my daughter, Sukhailah.
The next thing that made an impression on me was her choice of subject matter. Often we women get caught up with the idea that we want to hear about "women’s issues", like marriage, family, dealing with menstruation and child bearing, hijab, etc. The fact of the matter is, all of the vast sea of knowledge that Islam encompasses deals with women’s issues. And the first and foremost of these is aqeedah, alhamdulillah. Umm Salamah spoke about khawf, or fear of Allah, and rajah, or hope in Allah’s mercy. She stressed that though most of us may feel that at times we are alone, and could get away with whatever we like, Allah is always aware of what we are doing…and what is in our hearts. She also mentioned how the Jews and Christians are both astray in these matters. Alhamdulillah, it reminded me of my class of the evening before, which is an explanation of Usool Thalathah, and made me grateful again for the interconnectedness and wholeness of this beautiful deen, alhamdulillah.
After her brief talk, sisters wrote questions down and sent them up to her. Here is another thing that was made apparent to me…no matter where we are, in what time we are living, we all are dealing with the same issues, mash’Allah. There were questions about prayer, purification, aqeedah, and more. One thing that she addressed more than once was the issue of resembling the disbelievers. She stressed that this is truly dangerous, as it can weaken our deen and little by little take us away from Islam. She also answered a question by a sister who was attending the university here in Sana’a, which is coeducational, with men and women in the same classroom, though in different parts of it. She said that this was haram, and brought her proofs, and again stressed the danger of that little by little blackening our hearts with the doubtful things, things that lead to the worse matters. The sister who asked the question was almost in tears, but she said that she was going to find another way to study, insh’Allah.
After the talk, Sukhailah and I met Umm Salamah, and she was very gracious and kind. The first thing she asked was where we are studying, and encouraged us to continue to seek knowledge however we could. She had a minute for everyone who wanted to meet her, and answered more questions from sisters as she was preparing to leave.
Alhamdulillah, sisters, I would like to urge you all (and I include myself in this as well) to seek out the knowledge of this wonderful deen of ours…it is such a deep, deep well that one can draw from, and the result is a refreshment of the soul and a greater appreciation of the blessing from Allah that we call Islam.
I would like to end with some words from Sheikh Muqbil, rahimahu’Allah from his introduction to "As-Sahih Al Musnad min Fadaail Ahl Bayt An Nabi" by Umm Shuayb Al Wadi’eeya.
"To Proceed:
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says:
Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Maruf (Islamic monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful.
(Surah Al Imran, Ayat 104)
and Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says:
The believers, men and women, are Auliya’ (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another; they enjoin (on the people) Al-Ma’ruf (Islamic monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief of all kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden); they perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-salat), and give the Zakat, and obey Allah and His Messenger, Allah will have Mercy on them. Surely, Allah is All-Mighty, All Wise.
(Surah At-Tawbah, Ayat 71)
and Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says:
There is no good in most of their secret talks save (in) him who orders Sadaqah (charity in Allah’s cause), or Ma’ruf (Islamic monotheism and all the good and righteous deeds which Allah has ordained), or conciliation between mankind; and he who does this, seeking the good pleasure of Allah, We shall give him a great reward.
(Surah An-Nisaa, Ayat 114)
These verses include both the men and the women, as when Allah ta’ala says,
And perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-salat), and give Zakat, and obey the Messenger (Muhammad, sal Allahu aleihi wa salam) that you may receive mercy (from Allah).
(Surah An-Nur, Ayat 56)
He includes the men and the women.
And Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala gave success to a good group of women who have striven for the beneficial knowledge, and the practice of it, and who call to Allah. And from them the teachers, and from them the authors, and from them the callers to Allah on clear, correct knowledge.
And Allah benefits us with them, and with them is the best example in Aishah and Umm Salamah and Hafsa, and the rest of the Prophet’s women, and a large group of the female sahabah and from the tabaa’ieen (those who followed them), such as Hafsah Bint Sireen, ‘Amarah Bint Abdur-Rahman and Umm Darda As-Saghra, and they have spread by their examples, radiAllahuanhunna much good. And truly the women they are the twin halves of the men, except in situations which are made clear through evidence."
Subhanaka Allahummah bihamdik wa la il Allaha ila anta, wa astaghriruka wa atubu ilayk

The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم said "Umm Waraqah! Dwell in your house, Allah will give you a death as a martyr"

The Ansar of al-Madina were standing on the outskirts of their city, looking with impatient eyes towards the road approaching from Makkah. Men, women, girls, and boys, the young and the old were waiting for the arrival of their beloved Prophet who was migrating from his city to theirs at their invitation and the command of Allah. Suddenly someone shouted, 'Here they come!" and all the young girls and women burst into a song of praise of Allah and a welcome to His Messenger صلى الله عليه و سلم. Among these Ansari women was Umm Waraqah bint Abdullah. She was a learned, scholarly, pious and modest lady, who was well known among the women Companions as one who spent her nights and days in prayer and meditation. She used to recite the Quran beautifully; it was second nature for her to spend alot of time meditating on the meaning of its verses.
The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم valued her highly and he told her to lead the family in congergational prayers. The courtyard of the house was converted into a mosque; with the permission of the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم they had a Mu'ththin to give the call to prayers. Abdur-Rahman bin Khallad says that he saw the Mu'ththin, who was a very aged man. Thus Umm Warqah bint Abdullah was appointed to be an Imaam and lead the prayers for the ladies.
Besides her thirst for knowledge of the Quran, shari'ah (islamic legislation) and Ahadith, Umm Waraqah had a burning desire to die a martyr in the cause of Islam. When it was announced that the army should prepare to leave for battle of Badr, Umm Waraqah went to the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم and volunteered her services to tend to the wounded in the battlefield. She told him it was her earnest desire to die in the cause of Islam. The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم could see her enthusiasm and ardour, but he told her to stay at home and she would attain martyrdom there. She went back happily because it was her duty to yield to the command of the Messenger of Allah
Allah سبحانه و تعالى reveled to his beloved Messenger صلى الله عليه و سلم that Umm Waraqah would die the death of a martyr in her own home. Nobody could understand how this would take place with her sitting in her house, but they were sure it would definitely happen, as this news had been give to them by their truthful Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم
Umm Waraqah herself was waiting every moment to see how this auspicious event, which would be the fulfillment of her greatest dream, take place. She waited patiently, for it would give her eternal life and a place in Paradise. When would it take place? How exactly would it take place? What shape would it take? How would it be possible to become a martyr sitting in the house? Lost in these thoughts she passed her nights and days. The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم passed. Abu Bakr Siddique succeeded and also passed away; Umar Farooq became Caliph
Umm Waraqah had two slaves working for her, a girl and a man. She told them that after her death they would be free. One day they got together and decided that they were tired of waiting for this old lady to die. They planned that they would kill her while she lay asleep and escape freedom. They were so tempted by the thought of freedom that they forgot to consider their future as well as life in the hereafter. In the dead of the night as Umm Waraqah lay in a deep sleep, they killed her, covered her body with a sheet and crept away from the house silently.
As day broke and the sun came up the neighbors missed the sound of the beautiful recitation of the Quran by Umm Waraqah which use to fill the air early in the dawn. When they entered the house they were shocked to see her lying in the sleep of death. Then they saw that both the slaves -man and girl- were missing. They realized that they must be the criminals, Umar bin Khattab ordered that people should be sent out to search for them. Finally when they were found hiding. When they were brought before the Caliph in the court, they admitted their guilt and were put to death.
Thus the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم was proved right, That Umm Waraqah would die a martyr's death in her own home, and attain Paradise.

Praise be to Allaah.
There are many reasons for which people may be punished in their graves,
which Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) listed and said:
Some people may wonder about the reasons for which people may be
punished in their graves. This may be answered in two ways: in general and
in detail.
In general terms, they may be punished for their ignorance of Allaah, their
ignoring His commands and their disobedience towards Him. Allaah does
not punish any soul that acknowledged Him, loved Him, obeyed His
commands and heeded His prohibitions, nor does He punish the body that
was inhabited by that soul.
Punishment in the grave and in the Hereafter are due to the wrath and anger
of Allaah towards His slave. Whoever angers Allaah in this world and does
not repent, and dies like that, will be punished in al-Barzakh to a level
commensurate with Allaah's anger with him.
As for the detailed answer:
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us about two
men whom he saw being punished in their graves. One of them used to walk
around spreading malicious gossip among people, and the other failed to
take precautions to avoid getting urine on himself. So the latter failed to
purify himself as required, and the former did something that creates enmity
among people by talking, even if what he says is true.
Thus it may be noted that the one who stirs up enmity by telling lies and
making false statements will be punished even more.
Failing to keep oneself clean from urine indicates that the one who neglects
prayer, for which cleansing oneself from urine is a requirement and
condition will be punished even more. In the hadeeth of Shu’bah it says:
“One of them used to eat the flesh of people,” which refers to backbiting or
malicious gossip.
According to the hadeeth of Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him)
a man was struck with a whip and his grave was filled with fire because he
offered a single prayer without having purified himself, and he passed by
one who was being wronged and did not help him.
According to the hadeeth of Samurah in Saheeh al-Bukhaari, a person who
told a lie that spread far and wide was punished.
A man who read Qur’aan then slept at night and did not act upon it by day
was punished.
Adulterers and adulteresses are punished.
The one who consumes riba is punished in al-Barzakh, as the Prophet (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him) testified.
According to the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with
him), the heads of some people will be crushed with rock because they were
too heavy for them to get up and pray.
Some will graze on al-daree’ and al-zaqqoom (horrid types of food in Hell)
because they withheld the zakaah of their wealth.
Some will eat putrid, rotten meat because of their zina.
Some will have their lips cut off with iron scissors because they caused
fitnah (fighting, civil war) with their words and their speech.
According to the hadeeth of Abu Sa’eed, those who committed these crimes
will be punished. Some of them will have bellies as big as houses; they are
those who consumed riba. Some will open their mouths and have stones
thrown into them that will emerge from their nether regions; they are the
ones who consumed orphans’ wealth. Some will be hung up by their breasts;
they are the adulterers. Some will have their sides cut and will be fed with
their own flesh; they are the one who engaged in backbiting. Some will have
nails of copper with which they will scratch their faces and chests; they are
the ones who impugned people’s honour.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said that the one
who stole a cloak from the war booty will be wrapped in a cloak of fire in
his grave. This is despite the fact that he was entitled to a share of the booty,
so how about those who wrong others unlawfully?
The punishment of the grave is for sins of the heart, the eye, the ear, the
mouth, the tongue, the stomach, the private parts, the hand, the foot, and the
entire body.
Those who spread malicious gossip, tell lies, backbite, give false witness,
slander those who are chaste and innocent, spread fitnah, promote bid’ah
(innovation), say things about Allaah and His Messenger without knowledge,
and speak in a reckless manner.
Those who consume riba, consume orphans’ wealth and consume haraam
wealth such as bribes and the like.
Those who consume the wealth of their Muslim brothers unlawfully, or the
wealth of non-Muslims living under Muslim protection, or consume
intoxicants.
Adulterers, homosexuals, thieves, traitors, betrayers and plotters.
Those who consume riba, those who pay it, those who record it and those
who witness it; those who enter into a marriage merely to divorce the
woman so that it will become permissible for her to return to her former
husband, and those for whom this is done; those who seek to waive the
duties enjoined by Allaah and transgress His sacred limits.
Those who seek to harm the Muslims and seek to expose their faults.
Those who rule by something other than that which Allaah has revealed,
those who issue rulings based on things which Allaah has not prescribed,
and those who help others in sin and transgression.
Those who kill souls whom Allaah has forbidden us to kill, those who deny
the names and attributes of Allaah, those who give their opinions and ideas
precedence over the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah.
Those who wail for the dead and those who listen to them, those who will
wail in Hell are those who sing songs that are forbidden by Allaah and His
Messenger and those who listen to them. Those who build mosques over
graves and set up lamps in them; those who try to take more when they take
what they are owed and try to give less when they give what they owe.
Tyrants, the arrogant, those who show off, slanderers and backbiters, those
who slander the salaf.
Those who go to soothsayers, astrologers and fortunetellers to ask them
things and believe what they say.
Those who help wrongdoers, who have sold their Hereafter for the sake of
others in this world.
Those who, if you remind them to fear Allaah do not pay any heed, but if
you try to scare them by mentioning another person like themselves, they
pay heed and refrain from what they are doing.
Those who are told of the words of Allaah and His Messenger but they do
not pay any attention to it, but if they hear it from one of whom they think
well, who may be right or wrong, they seize it and do not go against it.
Those to whom Qur’aan is recited but they are not affected by it, and it may
be burdensome for them, but when they heard the “qur’aan” of the shaytaan
or that which calls to zina (i.e., music) and words of hypocrisy, they feel
good and it cheers them up, and they wish that the singer would not stop.
Those who swear by Allaah and tell lies, but when they swear by their
shaykhs or relatives, or the life of one whom they love and respect, they will
not lie, even if they are threatened and tortured.
Those who boast of their sins in front of their brothers.
Those from whom you do not feel that your possessions and dignity are safe.
Those who engage in obscene speech, whom people shun for fear of their
evil.
Those who delay prayer until the end of its time, and then peck out the
prayer, remembering Allaah but little therein. Those who do not pay the
zakaah of their wealth willingly. Those who do not perform Hajj even
though they are able to, and do not do the duties required of them even
though they are able to.
Those who are not cautious with regard to what they look at or say or eat or
where they go, and they do not care what wealth they acquire, whether it is
halaal or haraam.
Those who do not uphold the ties of kinship or show compassion towards
the poor, widows, orphans, or animals, rather they forsake orphans and do
not urge others to feed the poor. They show off to people, withhold small
kindnesses, and seek out people’s faults and sins whilst ignoring their own.
All of these and their ilk will be punished in their graves for these sins,
according to how great or small they were. Because most people are like this,
most of the inhabitants of the graves will be punished, and those who
succeed will be very few.
The outside of the grave is just earth, but inside it is regret and torment.
The outside may be earth and carved stones, whilst inside it is disaster and
calamity, boiling with grief and sorrow like a kettle, and no wonder, when
they no longer get what they want of their desires and wishes.
There are lessons in this world which need no further exhortation.
It calls out: O dwellers of the earth, you have focused on building a realm
that will soon pass away, and you have neglected the realm to which you are
moving quickly. You have built houses in which others will live and enjoy
them, and you have neglected houses for which there are no other
inhabitants but you.
This is the place where you will abide and bid farewell to work and toil.
This is what matters, one of the gardens of Paradise or one of the chambers
of Hell…
End quote from al-Rooh (95).
"Knowledge is an Imaam which leads to Righteous actions. It is craved by the people destined for Paradise and shunned by people destined for Hell" ~ Mu`adh ibn Jabal (ra).
Abu Hurairah tried to Follow every step of the Prophet PBUH, when he passed a place that he used to pass, he remembered that the Prophet PBUH would bend down to avoid low branches..He would do the same even though at that time, there was no tree there........
Now, that's Love.
Written by/Said by: Shaykh 'Abdul 'Azeez bin 'Abdullaah bin Baaz (raheemahullah) Taken from: Majmoo' Fataawaa wa Maqaalaat Mutnawwiah - volume 27
Question: We have read in Saheeh Al-Jaami' Al-Hadeeth (397) authenticated by (Shaykh) Al-Albaanee and collected by As-Suyootee (398) upon the authority of Abee Hurayrah (radiya'llahu anhu) that he said that the Messenger of Allaah (sal Allahu alayhi was sallam…) said: If the first half of Sha'baan has past, then do not fast until it is Ramadhaan. And there is present another hadeeth collected by As-Suyootee (8757), and it was authenticated by Al-Albaanee in Saheeh Al-Jaami' (4638) that upon the authority of A'isha (radiya'llahu anha) that she said: The most beloved of months for the Messenger of Allaah (sal Allahu alayhi was sallam…) to fast in was Sha'baan, and his fasting in Sha'baan was continuous like his fasting in Ramadhaan. So how do we reconcile between these two hadeeths?

Answer: With the name of Allaah and All praise is due to Allaah. To proceed: The Prophet(sal Allahu alayhi was sallam…) used to fast the month of Sha'baan in its entirety except for a few days as has been established from the hadeeth of Aisha and Umm Salamah. As for the hadeeth in which there is a prohibition upon fasting after the first half of Sha'baan has past, then it is Saheeh as the brother, Al-Allaamah, Ash-Shaykh Naasir Ud-Deen Al-Albaanee has mentioned. And what is intended by it, the prohibition, is upon the commencement of fasting after the first half (of Sha'baan) has past. As for the one who fasts most of the month or the month entirely, then he has reached the Sunnah. And Allaah is the grantor of Tawfeeq (success). Voluntary Fasting As we are beginning our new year with the great month of Muharram in which there is the great day of `Ashourah that the Muslims fast in revival of the practice of the Prophet Mousa alaihi as-Salam, I thought sharing with my dear brothers and sisters some important facts regarding voluntary fasting. Fasting in general and voluntary fasting in particular is a great worship of all time. Fasting is not restricted to Ramadhan, it is an act of worship that can be [and should be in some cases] performed at any time and at any place except when not recommended. Indeed, it is a worship that draws the believer closer to Allah and closer to perfection. In prayer most of us pray Sunna [supererogatory/optional/voluntary] prayer before or after mandatory prayer, called Rawatib, such as four Rak`at before and two after, two after Maghrib and `Isha and the two rak`at of Fajr. These are prayers we pray before or after a mandatory prayer. Similarly, there is a mandatory fasting and that is in Ramadhan. Just as the one performs the Rawatib before and after the Fardh prayer one should fast before and after Ramadhan, and just as the Rawatib were set by the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam the in some specific manner and amount, the Nafl [optional] Fasting was also set by the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam. In this short article we shall review the fasting of some days that were recommended by the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam.
1- Six days of the month of Shawwal: Abu Ayyoub reported that the Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam said "Whoever fasts the month of Ramadhan and then follows it by fasting six days during the month of Shawwal will be rewarded as if he had fasted the entire year. [Muslim, at-Tirmithi, Ibn Majah, Abu Dawood and Ahmad by way of Jabir]. These days can be anytime during the month of Shawwal except the first day because it is unlawful to fast the day of Eid. These days do not have to be at beginning of the month nor do they have to be consecutive. Hence, Muslims should seize this opportunity and fast these six days to get Allah's reward. Why the fasting of six days of Shawal after Ramadhan equates that of the whole year? Some `Ulamaa' say that the good deed is rewarded ten times. Thus fasting six days is like fasting 60 days, added to 30 days of Ramadhan times 10 (i.e. 300) it makes it a year.
2- The day of `Arafah: This is for those who are not performing the Hajj (pilgrimage) Abu Qatadah said : the Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, said: "Fasting on the day of `Arafah is an expiation [of sins] for two years, the year preceding it and the year following it and the fasting the day of `Aashuraa' is an expiation for the year preceding it. [Muslim, an-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, Abu Dawood].
3- Fasting three days of every month: `Amr Ibn Sharhabeel said : A man came to the Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, and said : O Messenger of Allah! what do you say in a man who fasts the whole year [time], on this the Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, said : I wish he would not eat anything during the year, he said what about two thirds of the year, he replied "more", he said what about half of it, he said more and then said : Shall I not inform you of what takes away the whispers of the chest, they said yes tell us, he said " fasting three days from every month. [an-Nasaa'i; Sahih] Abu Tharr Al-Ghefari said: "The Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, said "Whoever fasts from every month three days, it is like fasting the whole year, then Allah revealed what backs this in His book "Whoever comes with a good deed, he is rewarded ten folds", one day for ten. [Ibn Majah and at-Tirmithi]. Abu Tharr Al-Ghefari said: "The Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, said "O Abu Tharr! if you fast three days of every month, then fast the 13th, the 14th and the 15th [these are call the al-ayaam al-beedh, the white days]". [Ahmad, an-Nasaa'i and at-Tirmithi; Sahih]
4- Fasting Mondays and Thursdays: `Aa'ishah said : The Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa salam, used to fast Mondays and Thursdays". [an-Nasaa'i; Sahih] Abu Hurairah reported that the most the Prophet, salla Allahu alaihi wa salam, would fast would be Monday and Thursday. He was asked about that and he said: "The deeds of people are presented to Allah on every Monday and Thursday. Allah forgives every Muslim except for those who are deserting each other. He says: "leave them for later." [Ahmad; Hasan] -------------------------------5- Fasting Tasu'a and `Aashuraa': Tasu`aa' and `Aashuraa' are respectively the ninth and the tenth day of the month of Muharram. Ibn Abbas reported: "The Prophet came to Madinah and found the Jews fasting the day of Ashura. He asked them: "Why are you fasting this day?" They said: "This is a great day. Allah saved Mousa (Moses) and the tribes of Israel from their enemies on this day and therefore Mousa fasted on it. "The Prophet said: "We have more of a right to Mousa than you." So he fasted on that day also and ordered the people to fast on that day." [al-Bukhari and Muslim]. When the Prophet, salla Allahu alaihi wa salam, fasted the day of Ashura, the people told him that this day is a day that Jews and Christians honor. The Prophet said: "When the following year comes, Allah willing, we shall fast both the ninth and the tenth day of Muharram (that is to be different from the Jews and the Christians.)" The Prophet, salla Allahu alaihi wa salam, died before the following year."[Muslim].
6- Fasting during the month of Muharram: Muharram is the first month of the Islamic year The month of Muharram is the first month of the lunar year. Abu Hurairah reported: "I asked the Prophet: "Which prayer is best after the obligatory prayers?" He said: "Prayer during the middle of the night." I asked: "Which fast is best after the fast of Ramadhan?" He said: "Fasting during the month of Muharram." [Muslim].
7-Fasting during the month of Sha`baan Sha`baan is the month before Ramadan Sha`baan `Aa'isha said: "I have never seen the Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa salam, completing the fast of a month as he did for Ramadhan, and I have never seen him fasting so much as he would in Sha`baan." [al-Bukhari and Muslim] Fasting of a woman in her husband's presence. Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, said : "A woman is not to fast [even] for one day while her husband is present except with his permission, unless it is during Ramadhaan." [al-Bukhari, Muslim and Ahmad] Intention for voluntary fasting As opposed to Ramadan, the intention does not have to be made before dawn. The person can intend fasting [and start fasting] after dawn any time [even after noon] given that he did not eat anything. `Aa'ishah said : The Prophet, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, came to us one day and said, "Do you have any [food]?" We said "No". He said: Therefore, I am Fasting". [Muslim and Abu Dawood] Breaking the fast when fasting voluntarily and making up voluntary fasting Ummu Hani reported that the Prophet, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, entered her room during the day of the conquest of Makkah. He was offered something to drink and he drank from it. Then he offered it to me [Ummu Hani] and I said :" I am fasting". The Prophet, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, said : The one who is fasting voluntarily is in charge of himself. If you wish you may fast and if you wish you may break your fast". [Ahmad, ad-Daraqutni, al-Baihaqi, al-Hakim and at-Tirmithi]. In another narration, Ummu Hani said I am fasting but I dislike to return your leftover. He said: If it [the day you are fasting] is a making up for a day of Ramadhan then make up another day for it, and if it is a voluntary fasting day, then if you wish make it up and if you wish not don't" [Ahmad and Abu Dawood] `Aishah said : The Prophet, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, came to us one day and said, "Do you have any [food]?" We said "No". He said: Therefore, I am Fasting and then he came to me after that day and I was gifted some Hais [a kind of food], so I left it for him, and he used to like al-Hais. She said :" O Messenger of Allah! we were gifted some Hais and I left some for you. He said" Bring it closer to me, though I woke up with the intention of fasting, I will eat from it. Then he said: The example of the voluntary fasting is like the man who takes out money [to give] for charity, if he likes he give it and if he likes he keep it. [Ibn Majah; Hasan] Conclusion It is clear that voluntary fasting was something very common among the Sahaba and in the previous nations of believers and the Prophets Dawood and Mousa alaihim as-salaam are good examples. Indeed it is the way of the Believers that we should strive to follow. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Food and Eating Habits According to the Sunnah Saturday, 23 June 2007 By Imaam Ibnul-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah Comprehensive notes covering the most important qualities of the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) in regards to food and diet. It is sufficient for the son of Aadam to eat a few mouthfuls, to keep him going. If he must do that (fill his stomach), then let him fill one third with food, one third with drink and one third with air. FOOD:
[1]: When he put his hand in the food, he would say, Bismillaah (with the Name of Allaah),and he told people to say this when eating. He said, (sal Allahu alayhi was sallam) When any one of you eats, let him mention the name of Allaah. If he forgets to mention the name of Allaah at the beginning, let him say Bismillaahi fee awwalihi wa aakhirihi,(with the name of Allaah, at its beginning and at its end).[2] The correct view is that it is obligatory to mention the name of Allaah (say Bismillaah) when eating. The ahaadeeth which state this are saheeh (authentic) and are clear, with no contradictions in them.
[2]: When he raised the food to his mouth, he would say, (sal Allahu alayhi was sallam) Al-hamdu lillaahi hamdan katheeran tayyiban mubaarakan feehi ghayri makfiyyin wa laa muwadda' wa laa mustaghni 'anhu Rabbanaa 'azza wa jall (Allaah be praised with an abundant, beautiful, blessed praise. He is the One Who is Sufficient, Who feeds and is never fed, The One Who is longed for, along with that which is with Him, and the One Who is needed. He is Our Lord, may He be glorified). [3]
[3]: He never criticized food at all. If he liked it, he would eat it, and if he did not like it, he would leave it and not say anything. [4] Or he would say, (sal allahu alayhi was sallam)I do not feel like eating this. [5]
[4]: Sometimes he would praise the food, as when he asked his family for food, and they said, We have nothing but vinegar. He asked for it and started to eat it, saying, What good food is vinegar.[6]
[5]: He used to talk whilst he was eating, as is seen from the report quoted above about vinegar. And he said to his stepson 'Umar Ibn Abee Salamah (radiyallaahu 'anhu) when he was eating with him: Say Bismillaah and eat from that which is in front of you in the dish.'' [7]
[6]: He would repeatedly urge his guests to eat, as generous hosts do, and as is seen in the hadeeth of Aboo Hurayrah (radiyallaahu 'anhu), related by al-Bukhaaree, about the story of drinking milk, where he repeatedly said to him, Drink, and he kept telling him to drink until he (the guest) said, By the One Who sent you with the truth, I have no more room for it![8]
[7]: When he ate with others, he would not leave until he had made du'aa (supplication) for them. He made du'aa in the house of 'Abdullaah Ibn Bishr, and said: O Allaah, bless for them that which You have provided for them, forgive them and have mercy on them.[9]
[8]: He commanded people to eat with their right hands and forbade them to eat with their left hands. He said, The Shaytaan eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand.[10] This implies that eating with the left hand is haraam (unlawful), and this is the correct view, because the one who eats with his left hand is either a shaytaan (devil), or he is imitating the Shaytaan. It was also reported in an authentic hadeeth that he told a man who was eating with his left hand in his presence, Eat with your right hand! The man said, I cannot. He said, May you never be able to,and the man never lifted his right hand to his mouth after that. [11] If it was permissible (to eat with the left hand), he would not have prayed against him for doing so. It was the mans stubborn arrogance that made him refuse to obey the command, and this is the utmost disobedience which deserved this prayer against him.
[9]: He commanded those who complained that they never felt full to eat together and not separately, and to mention the name of Allaah (say Bismillaah) over the food so that He might bless it for them. [12]
[10]: It was also reported that he said, I do not eat reclining.[13]
[11]: He used to eat using the first three fingers (of his right hand), which is the best way of eating.
THE PROPHETS GUIDANCE REGARDING EATING:
[1]: The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) used to know what he was eating.
[2]: He used to eat what was good for him.
[3]: He used to eat enough to keep him going, but no so much as to make him fat. Ibn 'Umar related that the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said, The believer eats in one stomach whilst the disbeliever eats in seven. [14]
[4]: He taught his Ummah something to protect them from diseases caused by eating and drinking. He said, The son of Aadam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Aadam to eat a few mouthfuls, to keep him going. If he must do that (fill his stomach), then let him fill one third with food, one third with drink and one third with air. [15]

As salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu, me today with a heavy heart... sigh.
mashaa Allah came across a lot of one of my passions today, poetry my aim may Allah facilitate it ameen is to be able to understand and translate works from arabic, it would be such a blessing first and foremost to understand Qur'an as its being recited may Allah enable us all to understand and compehend the true meaning of His words ameen, k back to the poetry, i lke to write myself mashaa Allah just basic, just me... my heart on paper, my soul described,

My lord why do i sin so?
I only seek your face,
With you I taste a sweetness,
nothing could ever replace..

sometimes i truely hate myself, i hate my disobedience, i fear the concequences but I hope for forgiveness, its scary because we dont know what sin we will die upon may Allah grant us all good ends ameen .

i was looking for the hadeeth about the dunya being being cursed except the rememberance of Allah and came across this.... Alhamdulillah for the beautiful reminder mashaa Allah may Allah benefit us though it and guide us to obedience to Him Ameen.....

Truly, we were granted this life to be tested which of us would remain steadfast in the dhikr (remembrance) and shukr (gratitude) of Allah, the Sublime. Living in a landmine where every step you take can lead to your possible destruction, and not destruction of the body but rather of the soul, we see people being annihilated every single day.
This world is one big attraction, making those who in reality are meagre and full of weakness look strong and mighty, making those who are ignorant seem intelligent, and portraying those who have been misguided and enslaved to their own desires as being the most guided of people.
Know, that no one lives in this dunya (world) except that he will be eaten by it in its entirety or will leave bruised and scarred except for those whom Allah, the Most High, has mercy upon. Hasan al-Basree, may Allah have mercy upon him, had some wise words concerning the dunya when he said:
"So beware of this land (the dunya) that is falling down and is misleading and deceiving, being decorated by its deceit and having eluded (others) by its delusion, and having killed its people with its hopes. It looks forward with anticipation towards the one who proposes to it for marriage. Hence it becomes like the unveiled bride - all the eyes are looking towards it, and the souls are in love with it, and the hearts are captivated by it." [Related by Abu Nu'aym in al-Hilyah (2/135-136)]
Indeed he was true in his words, as we are all guilty of the crime of being deceived by the dunya with its beauty and glamour. Some of us were fortunate to get out, praise be to Allah, while others have wandered off into the everlasting dark tunnel that had no light at its beginning and has no light at its end, and the only thing that will allow him to leave is death itself. Refuge is sought with Allah, the Most High, from such an evil ending.
And know for a fact that no matter how much good you may see in this dunya, in reality it is just a wolf dressed in sheep’s clothing. Had there been any good in it, then Allah, the Beneficent, would have made it a place of reward, and place of dissension of His mercy but rather Allah only sent one of His mercies upon the earth through which we are kind to one another, and rather He has made it a place of trial and tribulation and a true prison for the believer. Likewise, had there been good in it we would have seen the Prophet, peace be upon him, being attached to it and living in its luxuries but rather he sacrificed it all with full certainty in that which will come after is better and everlasting. Thus, he said:
"The dunya is cursed. Cursed is all that is in it except for the remembrance of Allah, and that which resembles it, a scholar, and a student (of knowledge)." [Related by Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah, and Bayhaqi. The wording is taken from Shaykh al-Albaanee's Sahîh at-Targhîb wat-Tarhîb (1/34)]
So do we need anymore proof that this dunya is an endless pit for the one who is not careful and falls into it?
One of the most beautiful words ever uttered were at the end of a sîrah lecture (a lecture of the Prophet's life) where the speaker said referring to the Prophet, peace be upon him:
"He had the world at his feet, yet not a dinâr to his name."
Indeed that’s what true zuhd (asceticism) and taqwâ (piety) is, having the dunya bestowed upon you from every angle imaginable and sacrificing it for the noble face of your Creator and Sustainer. Truly a noble attribute that most have lost, except those who have been encompassed by the Mercy of Allah. So let us abandon this dunya and its temporary beauty for the joys which will last for eternity. Let us be the children of the âkhirah (hereafter) and not of the dunya as 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said:
"Verily the dunya is coming to an end, and the âkhirah is coming to a beginning and they both have children. So be children of the âkhirah and don’t be children of the dunya. For verily today there is action with no account and tomorrow there’s account with no action." [Related by Ibn al-Qayyim in ad-Dâ' wad-Dawâ Fasl 15]
So let us wear the garments of imân (faith) and taqwâ (piety) as they are the only true garments the cover the 'awrah, and are the only protection from the tribulations of the dunya. Like Allah, the Most High, said:
"And take provision, verily the best of provisions is at-taqwâ." [Al-Qur'ân 2:197]
And as He says:
"Verily for the muttaqîn (people of taqwâ) is success (i.e. Paradise)." [Al-Qur'ân 78:31]
And as He says:
"Indeed successful are the believers." [Al-Qur'ân 23:1]
And as He, the Most High, says:
"Verily those who believe and do righteous deeds will have the gardens of al-firdaus (the loftiest form of paradise)." [Al-Qur'ân 18:107]
May Allah make us of these people - Âmîn.
Lastly, before I end off, I leave you with the words of the Prophet, peace be upon him:
"Every man starts his day being a vendor of his soul, either freeing it or bringing about its ruin."
He who enslaves his soul to Allah has indeed liberated it and he who enslaves his soul to his whims and desires then let him prepare for a marriage to captivity till death do you part. Proving this point is the statement of the 'Allâmah of raqâ'iq (heart softening traditions) Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him:
"Verily the life of man is in the life of his heart and his soul. And there is no life in the heart except by knowing its creator, having love for him, worshipping him solely, turning to him in times of need, and seeking tranquillity with His remembrance. And he who loses this life has lost all good. Even if he attempts to substitute (this loss) with all that is in the world. For verily not even all of the world together would be able to replace this life. And verily for everything that a slave loses there is a substitute, but the one who loses Allah will never find anything to replace Him." [Related by Ibn al-Qayyim in ad-Dâ' wad-Dawâ Fasl 49]
So take these two sayings, read them, understand them, and implement them to the best of your ability, and know, without a doubt, that Allah is the one who grants success.
- The statement of Fudayl bin 'Iyyaad: "Man's fear of Allah is equal to his knowledge of Him and his renunciation of worldly pleasures is equal to his desire in the Hereafter."
- Secondly, the advice of Sufyan ath-Thawree: "Work for the sake of this life within the extent of your stay in it, and for the Hereafter within the extent of your stay therein."
[Both quotes are related in Abdul-Malik al-Qaasim's Life is a Fading Shadow, (Dar-us-Salam)]
And Allah knows best.
May Allah make us of those people who benefit from admonition and of those who when they are given are thankful, when tested are patient, and when sin are repenting (as these are the keys to success in this dunya and the âkhirah) -Âmîn.

"If you are in a (pasture) of good grace, then graze therein

For indeed sins remove blessings

Sins are diminished by obedience to Allah

And your lord is swift in retribution

Beware of oppresion to the best of your ability

Opression reaps evil consequences

And travel within your heart amongst mankind that it may see the remenants of those who were ill treated

These, their dwellings are testimony against them

There was nothing more destructive to them than tyranny

And it (tyranny) is that which shatters

And how many have been expelled from gardens and castles

While others were overwhelmed by flood and scorched by fire,

And the blessings they obtained passed away like a dream"
Beautiful Tears
by Amani Ansari, age 8

Mohammad (s) weeped for us.
The whole world full of tears.
Tears running down his cheeks,
He cried for all his fears.

Our beloved Prophet cried for us.
Because he wanted us to go to Jannah.
He wanted this beautiful Islam to last,
Because he cared about his Ummah.

If I lived at the Prophet's time,
I would give him the most beautiful flower,
And say "I love you",
Until the Final Hour.

I would tell him I will worship Allah,
So we can be together in Jannah.
Then he placed his hand on him and said: "O Allaah, forgive his sins and cleanse his heart, and protect his chastity." And after that the young man never thought of any such thing again.
Musnad Ahmad, 21705; al-Albaani classed its isnaad as saheeh in al-Saheehah, 370.
"O ummah of Muhammad, there is none more jealous than Allaah when His male or female slave commits zina. O ummah of Muhammad, by Allaah, if you knew what I know you would laugh little and weep much." Al-Bukhaari, 1044; Muslim, 901.
Beautiful.

Where’d you go then?$1: The usual too for me. The masajid, some charity event, an orphanage, etc.
I just had to return with a bang of a joke! Funny, eh? And therein lies a good lesson too…
O you who believe! Allaah Has Named us Muslims, So Why Ascribe Ourselves to the Salaf? This doubt was very beatifully answered by Imaam al-Albaani in his discussion with someone on this subject, recorded on the cassette entitled, “I am Salafi”, and here is a presentation of the vital parts of it:
Shaikh al-Albaani: “When it is said to you, ‘What is your madhhab’, what is your reply?”
Questioner: “A Muslim”.
Shaikh al-Albaani: “This is not sufficient!”.
Questioner: “Allaah has named us Muslims” and he recited the saying of Allaah Most High, “He is the one who has called you Muslims beforehand.” (al-Hajj 22:78)
Shaikh al-Albaani: “This would be a correct answer if we were in the very first times (of Islaam) before the sects had appeared and spread. But if we were to ask, now, any Muslim from any of these sects with which we differ on account of aqeedah, his answer would not be any different to this word. All of them – the Shi’ite Rafidi, the Khaariji, the Nusayri Alawi – would say, “I am a Muslim”. Hence, this is not sufficient in these days.”
Questioner: “In that case I say, I am a Muslim upon the Book and the Sunnah.”
Shaikh al-Albaani: “This is not sufficient either”.
Questioner: “Why?”
Shaikh al-Albaani: “Do you find any of those whom we have just mentioned by way of example saying, ‘I am a Muslim who is not upon the Book and the Sunnah’?” Who is the one who says, ‘I am not upon the Book and the Sunnah’?”
At this point the Shaikh then began to explain in detail the importance of being upon the Book and the Sunnah in light of the understanding of the Salaf us-Saalih…
Questioner: “In that case I am a Muslim upon the Book and the Sunnah with the understanding of the Salaf us-Saalih”.
Shaikh al-Albaani: “When a person asks you about your madhhab, is this what you will say to him?”
Questioner: “Yes”.
Shaikh al-Albaani: “What is your view that we shorten this phrase in the language, since the best words are those that are few but indicated the desired intent, so we say, ‘Salafi’?” End of quotation.
Hence, the point is that naming with “Muslim” or “Sunni” is not enough, since everyone will claim that. And Imaam al-Albaani emphasised the importance of the truth being distinguished from the falsehood – from the point of view of the basis of manhaj and aqidah, and that is taking from the Salaf us-Saalih, as opposed to the various sects and groups whose understandings are based upon those of their mentors and leaders and not that of the Salaf, fundamentally.
Questioner: [Continuing from where we left off] “Alright, I will submit to you and I say to you: Yes (I agree about summarising with saying ‘I am Salafi’), yet my belief is what has preceded, since the first thing that a person thinks of when he hears that you are a Salafi is that he recalls much of the experience he has had and which has involved severity which leads to harshness, all of which sometimes occurs from the Salafis.”
Shaikh al-Albaani: “Lets accept that your words are correct. If you said ‘I am a Muslim’, will not a person’s think of a Shi’ite Rafidee, or a Druze or an Ismaa’eeli (and incline to him).”
Questioner: “It is possible, however, I will have followed the noble verse, “He has named you Muslims”.
Shaikh al-Albaani: “No my brother! You have not followed the verse, since the verse means the correct form of Islaam. It is necessary that you address the people according to their level of understanding… so will anyone understand from you (when you say ‘I am a Muslim’) that you are indeed a Muslim with the desired meaning in the verse (of correct Islaam)? As for the various cautionary matters you have mentioned, then these are sometimes correct and sometimes they are not correct. Since your saying about harshness, then this can sometimes occur from individuals, yet this is not representative of a methodology that is tied to knowledge and belief. Leave aside individuals for now, we are actually talking about manhaj (methodology). This is because when we say Shi’ite, or a Druze, or a Khaarijee, or a Soofee, or a Mutazilee, the various cautionary matters you raised come into play (and can apply to them aswell). Hence, this is not the subject of our discussion. We are investigating a name which gives evidence to the madhhab of an individual and by which he worships Allaah… Are not all the Companions Muslims?”
Questioner: “Naturally.”
Shaikh al-Albaani: “However, there was amongst them, one who stole, or fornicated, but this does not allow any of them to say, ‘I am not a Muslim’, rather he is a Muslim and a Believer in Allaah, as a chosen way, however he sometimes opposes his chosen way, because he is not infallible. And it is for this reason that we – may Allaah bless you – are speaking about a word which indicates our aqidah and our thought and our starting point in our lives and which relates to the affairs of our religion by which we worship Allaah. As for the issue of so and so who is harsh and so and so who is lax and too soft, then that is an entirely different issue…. I wish that you would reflect upon this concise word (i.e. Salafi) so that you do not persist upon the word ‘Muslim’. And you know that there is no one who will understand what you really intend (by using the word ‘Muslim’ alone) ever…” End Quote (Cassette “I am a Salafi”).

Assalaam allaaykum warahmatullaah, This was sent to us by Nawaz as-Srilaankee, a student in Dammaaj. It was sent to us to encourage the brothers in the west to travel to seek knowledge. He translated some of the praises of the Ulamaa for Dammaaj and its teachers. I have listened to some of his lessons which prove him to be well learned. He is strong in Tawheed (The field of Islaamic Monotheism) He has done a Tahqeeq (adding footnotes, checking the Ahadeeth and correcting errors) of the book "Islaah al-Mujtama' " by Al-Bayhaanee. Also, he has written a refutation against az-Zindaanee criticizing his book 'Tawheed al-Khaaliq' and he has (written) some other small books.
• 2. The Imaam said in the preface to Shaykh Yahyaa's tahqeeq of the book " Islaah al Mujtama' "The brother as-Shaykh Yahyaa with praise to Allaah has became an authority in the field of teaching and legal rulings. I ask Alllaah , the Exalted, to grant him a good rewards and to bless him in his knowledge and his wealth and his children, indeed He is the All-Generous, All-Benefitiant.
• 3. The Imaam said in the preface to as-Shaykh Yahyaa's book" as-Subh a Shaari' ". To proceed; Verily I have read through most of the book of the brother in Allaah deen. The outstanding Shaykh ibn 'Alee al-Haajooree (May Allaah protect him) and I found that he did very well and brought much benefit in his refutation against Abdul-Majeed az-Zindaane what a good reaserch he did discussing in the majins beneficial pieces of knowledge in to the topics of 'Aqeeda and Fiqh and Hadeeth and Tafseer. Our Lord has spoken the truth when he says (the english meaning is) " O you who believe if you fear Çááå (Allah) , Çááå (Allah) will grant you a criterion (al-Anfal:29). and when He says " Fear Çááå (Allah) and Çááå (Allah) will teach you " (al-Baqarah:282) and when He says " O you who believe fear Çááå (Allah) and believe in His messanger he will give you a double portion of His Mercy and He will give you a light by which you shall walk (straight). (al-Hadeed:28). Shaykh Yahyaa (May Çááå (Allah) protect him) Çááå (Allah) has endowed him with knowledge because of his adherence to the Book of Çááå (Allah) and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Çááå (Allah) (May the peace and blessings of Çááå (Allah) be upon him) He has completed the tahqeeq of the book " Islaah al Mujtama' "and other small books containing beneficial pieces of knowledge in which journeys are made in search of, the Ayah " That is the Grace of Çááå (Allah) in which he bestows on whom He wills. And Çááå (Allah) is the owner of the mighty grace. (the english meaning of al-Jumu'a:4). We ask Çááå (Allah) to grant us and him ( as-Shaykh

Yahyaa) success in serving and defending the Sunnah of the Messenger of Çááå (Allah) and we ask that He protects us from the trials of the life and death, verily He is able to do all things.
• 4. The Imaam said in the preface to ash-Shaykh Yahyaa's book " al-‘Arba'oon al-Hisaan". To proceed I have read portions of what the outstanding Shaykh, the Muhaddith, the Faqhee , Yahya ibn 'Alee al-Haajooree has written in the forty Hadeeth. Dealing with gathering around the meal and I found that he (May Çááå (Allah) protect him) did very well and brought much benefit, rather he brought beneficial pieces of knowledge in which journeys are made in search of. May Çááå (Allah) grant him a good reward.
• 5. The Imaam said in the preface to ash-Shaykh Yahyaa's book "Ahqaamul Jumu'ah" to Proceed; "I have looked through the book al-Jumu’ah by Shaykh Yahyaa ibn 'Alee Haajooree and I found it to be a magnificent book. In it are beneficial pieces of knowledge in which journeys are made in search of including, giving every hadeeth the ruling it deserves and covering the entire topic. So it is a complete book sufficient in this topic. And how can that not be the case while ash-Shaykh Yahyaa is someone who goes to the extreme in searching for what is best and in righteousness and in leaving of those things that don't benefit in the hereafter (az-Zuhud), and piety and in fearing Çááå (Allah). He is someone who speaks the truth and He for Çááå (Allah) is not afraid of the criticism of the one who criticize, and he (May Çááå protect him) acts as my substitute in the lessons in Darrul-Hadeeth in Dammaj. giving them in the best desired manner. 6. One of the guards of Shaykh Muqbil (rahimahullaah), mentioned to us that he asked Shaykh Muqbil (rahimahullaah) at a Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia "Who is the most Knowledgeable man in Yemen?" So the Shaykh remained silent for a moment then he said " ash-Shaykh Yahya "
